Using Less - Reducing petrol usage

This is our second article in the “Using Less” series, this time on how you can use less petrol in your day-to-day life. The green benefits of using less fuel are obvious - every litre of petrol results in around 2.2 kilograms of CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere. There’s also an obvious benefit to your hip pocket - in fact, that benefit seems to get clearer every week as petrol prices keep rising and rising!

You think you get good mileage on your car? Check out Hypermiling!

I was doing some idle websurfing over the weekend, and came across this article on hypermiling - the practise of doing whatever it takes to get better petrol consumption for your vehicle.

Wow.

The kind of mileage these guys are getting in standard, non-hybrid vehicles is incredible. And the lengths to which they’ll go to are just as amazing. Now I should say right here that I can’t in good faith endorse all the techniques these guys use - some seem to cross that boundary where safety is compromised (drafting behind large trucks, anyone?). But there are many tips that are within reach of all of us, which can help make that tank of petrol last a little bit longer.

Toyota’s Concept Hybrid - the Hybrid X

Well, there’s not too much information on its green credentials, but given the interest in past Prius related posts, I’m going to guess that a few readers will be interested in these new photos of Toyota’s concept car, the “Hybrid X” which many suspect heralds whats to come for the 2008 Prius.

I’m heartened by the amount of interest this Toyota concept is generating - hybrid vehicles are certainly getting their share of publicity! Now, I understand that hybrids are certainly no panacea for transport-related emissions (look for a post shortly about transport alternatives!), but I think they serve an important function in:
