Great job on reducing your electricity usage. We have also over the last 4 years reduced our electricity usage by 50% using some of the methods that you have tried.

Some additional tips for your readers that helped us reduce our electricity usage:

1. Installing a programmable thermostat - allows you to set the temperature back at night and when you are not home.

2. Replace washer and dryer with more efficient front load models. Use a lot less water and the high spin of the washer means less drying time.

3. Wash cloths in warm or cold water - This cuts down on your hot water costs significantly.

Hi,

Measuring is indeed the key. Here was our experience on the other side of the planet from you...

http://www.earth.org.uk/saving-electricity.html

Do keep trying for that solar DHW: it's the best bang for your buck in terms of CO2 emissions even with your nominally-green electricity (so you 'brown' less of the supply for others as it were), and it's what I am planning next.

Rgds
