Toyota’s Concept Hybrid - the Hybrid X

Well, there’s not too much information on its green credentials, but given the interest in past Prius related posts, I’m going to guess that a few readers will be interested in these new photos of Toyota’s concept car, the “Hybrid X” which many suspect heralds whats to come for the 2008 Prius.

The story and photos can be found at Edmunds at:

Straightline - 2007 Geneva Auto Show: Is the Toyota Hybrid X a glimpse at the next-gen Prius?

I’m heartened by the amount of interest this Toyota concept is generating - hybrid vehicles are certainly getting their share of publicity! Now, I understand that hybrids are certainly no panacea for transport-related emissions (look for a post shortly about transport alternatives!), but I think they serve an important function in:

  • Displacing sales of other, less fuel-efficient, cars, and
  • Raising awareness of just how much fuel (and therefore CO2 emissions) a “standard” car generates - knowing that a car uses 14 litres/100km may not seem like much…until you hear that a Honda Civic Hybrid can do around 5-6 litres/100km, and a Prius 4-5 litres/100km!
